This is my new favorite radio station, with fresh new music. It is almost anti-pop and pop and rock and all kinds of alternative, reminding me of the old 92.7 WDRE / LIRR from the 80’s and 90’s and First Wave Channel 33 on Sirius.
Sometimes I think of the past and the good times and the good music. I guess I’m old because I rarely like anything on the radio, especially hip hop and, even worse, straight rap. There are a couple of songs by Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, etc. that do remind me of 80’s stuff, but they are far and few between.
How this relates to running you may ask? I replay these songs in my head as I’m running so there is the connection. I do have a list of songs that help me run faster here. This station is different from other mainstream stations as it has a great mix of songs that are not all the same. Here is a sampling of why I like the station:
“Get Out” – Chvrches – a nice poppy song with an 80’s feel….
“Handyman” – AWOLNATION – It starts out slow and builds to a crescendo
“Dangerous Night”- 30 Seconds to Mars – straight arena rock from 1984
“Walk on Water” – 30 Seconds to Mars – same as above
“Scary Love” – The Neighborhood – a little 1980s New Wave-ish
“Turn” – The Wombats – A New Wave hit from England from 1983….
“Take it all Back” – Judah and the Lion – like a simple sing along from 1974…..
“Sit Next to Me” – Foster the People – I like this newer group’s songs
“One Foot” – Walk the Moon – Catchy and fun
“Broken” – Lovelytheband – Could be a 1990’s song as well
“Too High” – Moon Taxi – a breezy pop blast from 1982
“Favorite Color is Blue” – Robert Delong – very weird sounding but catches you
….and it is the first place I have heard “How Soon Is Now?” by the Smiths on the radio since about 1993….
Happy Running and Trials of Miles,
